MINI INTRODUCTION:

The Mini has been absent from the American scene for more than 30 years, but it poised to make a comeback in 2002 if all goes well with the company's relaunch of the "new" Mini Cooper. Mini began in the late 1950's with a goal to create an inexpensive fuel-efficient four-seater vehicle. The original Mini's launch in 1959 was relatively unheralded - it was as far cry from gas guzzlers dominating the American market. Although the Mini was no longer sold in the U.S. after 1968, it has become one of England's best-selling vehicles.
MINI COOPER:

In 1961, Mini decided to release a 997 racing version named after its designer, John Cooper. Two years later, the Cooper S model won several alpine rally race and the car quickly earned a reputation as a performance car - proving that size really didn't matter when it comes to racing (it's the smallest car in the game). The pictures on this page are of the vintage Cooper 1.3i as seen in Gran Turismo 3.
