Alfa Romeo:
Alfa Romeo has a deep history that spans almost a century, beginning in
1906 when the company began producing low-cost cars based in Milan, Italy. Sold in 1986 to the
Fiat Group, the company began to make its mark in the high-performance luxury car market. Models
such as the Alfa 156 helped the company build a strong reputation on the touring car championship
circuits. In recent years, the car that remains one of the company's all-time best sellers is the
Alfa 156, a car that's won more than 30 prestigious international awards, including 1998 Car of
the Year for its category.
ALFA ROMEO 156 2.5 V6 24V:
After its appearance in 1997, the Alfa Romeo 156 has achieved more than
enough success to demonstrate the abilities of Alfa, pulling it out of a slump. Two engine
types are available - the straight-4 Twin Spark used since the 155, and a V6 that previously
had 12 valve heads which is now given 24 valve heads. Previous Alfa V6's had a design in which
the camshaft provided on the intake side also drives the exhaust-side valves, thus the SOHC does
the same work as a DOHC, but the V6 in the 156 now has two camshafts on one bank. This makes
the V6 even smoother, boosting the maximum power from 150 hp @ 5800 rpm in the 155 to 190 hp @ 6300 rpm
with the 156's V6. In thinking about the 156, one cannot ignore the suspension. The front is a
double wishbone able to devote itself entirely to the up-and-down motion of the shock absorbers,
while the rear has departed at last from the trailing arm type, adopting Lancia struts, namely a
parallel link suspension that suppresses changes in the tire footprint to a certain degree. This
radically reformed suspension gives the 156 an extremely sharp impression while maintaining the
same 2.2 turns lock-to-lock as the 155.

ALFA ROMEO'S GT3 LINEUP:
Not extremely powerful, yet clearly enjoyable enough to buy and take to the
Tuning Shop. The 156 is an excellent value.
